The Burner Box

Stainless Steel Burner Box with Quick Release Panel ClipsThe Burner box houses the controls of the Modulating Infrared Heating Unit. It is a Stainless Steel Burner Box with Quick Release Panel Clips making access easy and convenient for service. The design of this stainless steel enclosure provides protection for the controls to minimize exposure to dirt and moisture ever present from the outdoor heating environment.

The flat burner box design contributes to an efficient and unobtrusive outdoor heater layout for your restaurant or bar heating area.

Burner Box Internal Components

Burner Box-Internal Components really set our heaters apart from the competition.

The complex internal components enable Awning-Sun’s units to function efficiently and with much more control than other units, especially electric or propane.

The Emitter Tube and Reflector

infrared emitter tube The emiiter tube is what transports the heat from the burner box down the length of the unit, at times reaching as much as 700º F. This emiiter tube then works inconjunction with the reflector assembly to discharge the infrared heat, and focus it towards the seating area.

Infrared Heater Venting

There is a misconception that all heaters can be vented.. this is not true. There are many heaters on the market that can not be vented which may be fine for an open patio... but what about when you decide to enclose your patio? What happens is that you are forced to purchase new heaters that can be vented so as not to encapsulate the exhaust gases from the heater. If you are even remotely thinking of enclosing your patio in the future, you are wise to install a heater that can be vented. Should phase two of your build find you enclosing the area, your vent-able heater can easily have its exhaust piped out of the structure to ensure code compliance and make for a safe environment.  infrared heater venting

Infrared Outdoor Heater Modulator

Q MOD Modulating Control Panel

Unique to our systems is the use of Q-Mod modulating control.

This control provides fuel efficient outdoor heating operation with fully automatic OR manual control of burner modulation to adjust to outdoor heating conditions.

This provides efficient and optimum combustion throughout full range of burner inputs ensured by pre-programmed burner controls that adjust both fuel and air.

The use of energy efficient Infrared heating has allowed bars to increase their business in an area that would normally remain empty for most of the year.

outdoor bar heater

Heating outdoor areas means that existing facilities can be maximized and profits boosted.

In addition, the  smoking laws in many cities mean that smoking is not permitted in indoor areas. The new heated area in specified outdoor areas  of bars caters for those customers who wish to smoke. Many bar owners tell me that they don’t want their patrons outside, but want them inside both to spend money and to lessen outdoor noise for neighbors. Providing outdoor heat can help by encouraging smokers to go to a certain outdoor area, thereby channeling noise that will exist anyway.

Patio heaters produce heat one of two ways. They either burn a fuel like propane or natural gas, or they heat an element using electricity. This heat source is then amplified through special heat directing materials so that it warms a specific area. Unlike a space heater that contains a fan, patio heaters warm the area around them by using radiant heat, the same heat that the sun produces, but without the harmful ultra-violet rays.

Infrared Patio Heater Under Awning Angle MountEvery object produces radiant heat. Night vision technology works by ‘seeing’ that heat. A fun way to see radiant heat in our environment is to go outside in the evening of a hot day. As the sun is setting reach your palm out over the ground. Then turn you palm up towards the sky. Slowly flip your hand between the two positions. You will feel the radiant heat produced by the earth. Patio heaters are designed to produce a high quantity of radiant heat. This method of heating is much more efficient for a bar than blowing hot air into an outdoor space as that air will just escape and take the precious warmth with it. Radiant heat travels through the air and heats the objects in the patio heaters range directly.

Professional Design & Installation of an outdoor heating system is critical to the efficient and effective function of the system.

infrared beam pattern

This image is a clear example of the proper and improper way of designing & installing an infrared heating system.

INCORRECT: The infrared beam pattern is stretched beyond its intended use and a balanced heating pattern is not achieved.

CORRECT: An additional heating unit is installed to spread the heating surface and provide a more balanced heating area at a lower operating temperature.
